Practical Magic 101: Cord Cutting Rituals for Everyday Life

Jul 14, 2021

We hear it time and time again…

“Release what no longer serves you.”

But is it ever as simple as that? Just letting go?

Wouldn’t it be amazing to have the ability to shed the things that hold us back like a snake sheds its skin? How convenient it would be if our lives simply stripped away the old like clockwork! But each and every one of us knows how challenging it can be to let go and move on — even when we’re moving toward bigger and better things.

So how can we ease these necessary transitions into our lives? Not all of us are so keen to perform elaborate cord cutting rituals or burn petitions in bonfires. Thankfully, those aren’t the only ways we can energetically clear and cleanse the unwanted elements of our lives.

I can pretty much guarantee that every room in your house has a secret, practical magic ritual waiting to be discovered. From the bathroom to the kitchen, here are a few thoroughly magical but surprisingly practical cord cutting rituals that you can do any time!

CORD CUTTING IN THE BATHROOM

Exfoliate

Yes, you read that right! Physical exfoliation can help us shed non beneficial patterns and connections. Whether you prefer dry brushing or a gentle sugar scrub, exfoliating to remove those dead skin cells and reveal radiantly smooth skin underneath is a quick, luxurious way to release what no longer serves you.

As you brush and scrub, visualize those old energies being shaken loose and falling away. Then follow up your exfoliating ritual with your favorite moisturizer to welcome and seal in some fresh, positive energy.

Trim Your Hair & Nails

Trim split ends from your hair or clip your nails to help lose the dead weight in other areas of your life.

Now, I definitely don’t mean cut your bangs in the middle of a pandemic because you saw someone on TikTok do it! Nope, not that — put the scissors down.

Trimming split ends and clipping your nails are both symbolic actions that can guide you toward letting go of the old and moving forward with confidence. Self care and cord cutting all in one? Yes, please!

CORD CUTTING IN THE BEDROOM

Foam Rolling

Foam rolling is a type of self massage meant to alleviate tightness and improve muscle flexibility. Ironing out the stuck spots in our fascia tissues can help us see new ways of relating to people, places, things, and situations.

Sometimes a full on cord cutting — completely letting go of something — isn’t actually what’s necessary. Oftentimes a shift in perception is all that’s needed to help create the change you so desire.

Self-massage with your favorite foam roller will not only help your body feel good. The relaxation and relief that you experience will help open your mind without that veil of physical stress and tension. The experience in our bodies will almost always affect the experience of our minds and the reality of our environment.

Redecorate

I have an entire blog post on the importance of interior design as Empaths and Highly Sensitive People, and that’s because our physical environment absolutely affects our mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual health!

Feeling like you need to let go and cut some cords? Get rid of some of the STUFF filling your bedroom. Donate it, sell it, give it to that friend who you know just adores it! Then treat yourself to something new and bring in that fresh, vibrant, positive energy.

This can be especially helpful if you’re letting go of something truly associated with what no longer serves you. And, hey! If letting go of physical items is a challenge for you, simply pack them away with intention.

CORD CUTTING IN THE KITCHEN

Wash the Dishes

Can you guess where we’re going with this one? The everyday act of washing dishes gives us an amazing chance to truly watch the things that are holding us back wash down the drain.

Envision the tie you’re ready to release being scrubbed up, rinsed off, and washed away with every dish you clean.

Clean the Counters

Just like with washing the dishes, cleaning those kitchen counters is another TANGIBLE, everyday routine that you can transform into a practical, magical ritual.

Try making your own cleaning solution and infusing it with herbs and oils that correspond to your intentions! Rosemary aids in clearing and cleansing, orange peel brings in positivity and abundance, lavender encourages peace — the combinations are endless and you can cater them to YOU.

Now remember, intention is key but it isn’t everything. Pair your intentions with conscious actions and that’s how you’ll really start seeing change!

This is why I love finding magic in the mundane. For all the affirmations spoken and time spent in profound ritual, we are still so wonderfully human. When you learn to look at normal, everyday human actions, see the magic hidden within them, and work alongside that energy…life as you know it transforms for the better.

CHOICE

The stories we tell ourselves about money do NOTHING for our growth. So why are we hanging on to them? Because they offered us protection in our past.

Our Central Nervous System does an amazing job at protecting us from overwhelm and harmful situations, but we eventually outgrow the responses our body has taught itself. These patterns about money have stopped serving us, and cord cutting rituals can help.

The anxiety, stress, and uncertainty that arises in situations where money is the focus? It is holding us back. In fact, it is keeping us from reaching our highest good. I speak so much more about this in Episode 116 of the Moon + Manifest podcast. If you’re curious about this topic then let’s start transforming your relationship with money.
